Prof. Carlos E. F. Young is currently Associate Professor (Professor Associado) at the Institute of Economics, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IE-UFRJ), where he teaches since 1990, and coordinates the Research Group on Environmental Economics and Sustainable Development. More recently Prof. Young has also joined the Postgraduate Program in Environmental Sciences (PPGCA) at the State University of Mato Grosso (UNEMAT) as Collaborator Professor.

 

Dr. Young got his Ba. and MSc. Degrees from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and he received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University College London in 1997. He spent the first semester of 2002 as BP Visiting Research Fellow at the Centre for Brazilian Studies, University of Oxford.

 

The recent research agenda of Dr. Young has focused on the possible connections between international trade and the environment, environmental accounting, macroeconomic modelling incorporating environmental variables, the economics of deforestation, valuation techniques of natural resources, and the economics of climate change. He was a pioneer on Green GDP estimates in Brazil, and has many studies on issues relation development and the environment, including environmental consequences of energy and infrastructure projects, technical aspects of environmental impact assessment, public policies and tropical deforestation, determinants of green innovation and financing for sustainable development.
