Sonja Hawkins is the Programme Officer for climate and trade policy in the Climate & Energy programme at ICTSD. Her work focuses on issues at the intersection of climate change, trade and sustainable development. Sonja works in particular on carbon markets, climate clubs, response measures, and the international climate negotiations. She is also part of the Carbon-Cap project where she focuses on the interactions between consumption-side climate policies and international trade. Sonja has published several papers and articles on carbon markets, demand-side climate policies, and climate change and trade more broadly. Prior to joining ICTSD in 2013, Sonja had worked at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and as a correspondent covering UN and WTO news from Geneva. Sonja holds a M.Sc. in International Public Policy from the University College London (UCL) with a specialisation in political economy and research methods, and a B.A. in Governance & Public Policy with a specialisation in international policy and economics from the University of Passau, Germany. Sonja is fluent in English, German and French.
